Frequently Asked Questions

If I opt out of paying the fee, can I bring my recyclables to the Bridge St. recycling center?

Yes, but the Recycling center is only open the first and third Saturday of each month (except Dec. – March) from 8 am to 12:45 pm. You will need to purchase a recycling sticker for $150. You will also have to separate metals, and cardboard because they each have their own bin.

Is there a yearly fee to use the Recycling Center?

A. Yes. The $150 fee covers access to the recycling center. This fee is included in the $500 yearly fee if you are participating in the trash and recycling program.

What are the hours and locations of the DPW?

7:30 am – 3:00 pm at 49 Dean Place, East Bridgewater, MA 02333.

When is the Bridge St. Recycling Center open?

The 1st & 3rd Saturday of the month from 8 am – 12:45 pm. Also, from 8 am to 1 pm on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays from December through March.

Where can I get a new recycle bin?

Contact the DPW.

Can I put large items out at the curb?

Yes, but only 1 large item per week. The item must be a wooden or upholstered piece of furniture.

Can I put appliances, TVs, and electronics out at the curb?

No, the new agreement with Republic Services does not include appliance and electronic pickup. Those items can be brought to the Recycling Center on Bridge St with a valid recycle sticker.

Do glass bottles, aluminum cans, and rigid plastic containers need to be separated?

No, they can all go into the same bin for curbside pickup.– rinse and leave labels on items.

How do I recycle newspapers?

Put it into a paper bag and place it inside the new 96-gallon toter.

Can toilets, sinks, wallboard, wood, etc., be disposed of?

It is all considered “building debris” and must go to a place such as Trojan Recycling in Brockton.

What happens to trash & recycling pick-up if there is a Holiday week?

Trash will then be delayed for one day. Check out the calendar for the holiday schedule. We also have an app to download on your phone for reminders and schedules

What if my trash or recycling is not picked-up, and I had it out by 7 am?

Call the DPW at 508-378-1620.

What can be disposed of at the Bridge St. Recycling Center

The same items that can be recycled curbside and also appliances, electronics, leaves and yard waste, and Styrofoam with a valid sticker.

Is there any other way to dispose of leaves and yard waste?

You can dispose leaves and yard waste at the recycle center with valid sticker.

What about Hazardous Waste?

Q. How do I dispose of a Christmas tree?

Christmas tree collection can be brought to the recycling center when it is open with a valid sticker.

Is there an alternative to the new trash and recycling program?

Yes. Besides hiring another private company, you may purchase a recycling center sticker for $150 at DPW. This sticker grants you access to the recycling center. Here you can separate and place your recyclables in their appropriate container.
If you have trash to dispose of, then you can buy the small yellow trash bags at the Townhall and DPW. A roll of 5 bags costs $20. Then you would bring those bags to the recycle center when it is open on the first and third Saturday of the month and put them in the dumpsters.

What is Considered a Large Item?

A large/bulky item is generally considered a piece of furniture (excluding sleep sofas).  Items like couches, love seats, bureaus, dressers, tables, lamps, wooden chairs, wooden bed frames, and ottomans are some examples. If the couch is more than two seats, please call the DPW to arrange for a bulky item pickup.

ALL LARGE ITEMS PUT OUT FOR COLLECTION MUST ORIGINATE FROM THE RESIDENCE WHERE THE ITEM IS PUT OUT FOR COLLECTION.

DPW reserves the right to deny the collection of any large item for any reason.  The collection of bulky/large items is intended to provide a free service to residents in the program. It is not intended to provide a means of disposal for junk collectors, landlords or residents, and non-residents NOT in the program.

Below is a list of items not considered bulky/large items and will not be collected curbside by Republic. If you have a question about what is considered a large item, please call the DPW office at (508) 378-1620.

​Not Accepted at the Curb:

  • TVs, electronics, and appliances- these should be brought to the Recycle Center when it is open.
  • Building debris- drywall, baker’s racks, any type of wood, toilets, insulation, cabinets, doors, storm doors, bricks, concrete, and windows.
  • Excess trash- this will need to be placed in yellow town trash bags in order to be collected at the curb. They can be purchased at the DPW office and the Townhall. Excess trash left at the curb in privately owned bins will not be collected.
  • Cardboard boxes- these should be cut up and placed in your recycle bin.
  • Yard debris- this can be brought to the Recycle Center with a valid sticker.

Republic Services asks that if you have a large item that is larger than a two seat couch or too large for one person to lift, please call the DPW to schedule a bulky item pick up.
